THE PARK Ministries
THE PARK Ministries are one way of being neighborly to those who live within a few blocks of our church building. THE PARK is a collection of ministries including a summer children's program (THE PARK) aimed at kids in elementary school, a Sk8 Park open during summer evenings, and a family-friendly fall block party (Party @ THE PARK). The PARK is named for the inviting activity fields on First Covenant's property south of the main building.
Tutoring Club
The tutoring club meets once a week and provides one on one assistance for elementary-aged area students struggling with their school work. A hot meal is also provided. The tutoring club at First Covenant is part of a group of clubs at churches throughout the city organized by Rockfordland Youth For Christ.
The Carpenter's Place
Members and attendees of First Covenant regularly participate in and support the work of The Carpenter's Place. The Carpenter's Place is a faith-based organization that provides the tools necessary for rebuilding the lives of the chronically homeless. Inspired by Christ's compassion, The Carpenter's Place offers direction with accountability to people with broken lives, helping them find peace with God, themselves, and their communities. Honored with the 2007 Excelsior Award for its positive impact on the Rock River Valley, The Carpenter's Place offers a unique and successful model for ministry and urban renewal. Habitat for Humanity
Handy First Covenanters help build a home each year in cooperation with the other local Covenant churches as part of the Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate (www.rockfordhabitat.org).
River Bluff Nursing Home
Participants spend time with residents monthly, playing games, singing and sharing an entertaining program.
Hearts and Hands
Meeting monthly, participants offer their skills (sewing, handicrafts) to construct and package needed items for local and international missions.
