Human trafficking... modern-day slavery. We've studied the Emancipation Proclamation and the been taught from grade school that slavery ended under the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, but that was only the end of the legal slave industry in the United States. The horrific truth is that humans are still being bought and sold every day at great profit to the perpetrators. Read the open letter from the Evangelical Covenant Church:
January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. I invite you to join us in a Covenant-wide effort to create awareness and encourage action in the important fight against modern-day slavery. Resources have been compiled by a diverse group of individuals from across the Covenant who are passionate about addressing human trafficking. It is our goal to encourage all Covenant churches to observe Human Trafficking Awareness Day, and launch or continue a multi-faceted effort to engage this injustice. Thank you for joining us in this effort!
