worship
Worship at First Covenant Church is like a banquet with many flavors representing the varied ways we speak to and hear from God when we gather together. We offer two Sunday morning worship services in our sanctuary, reflecting both the heritage and vision of our church.
8:30 am Traditional Worship Service
The Traditional Worship Service emphasizes classical musical style featuring First Covenant's lovely pipe organ and piano accompaniment, drawing primarily from the time-tested hymns of the faith. We receive solid biblical teaching from Senior Pastor David Smith and Family Ministries Pastor David Ahrens, feeding and equipping worshipers to reach and touch our world.
- Praise Chorale
The congregation regularly enjoys the ministry of the multi-voice Praise Chorale (in session September through May) under the direction of Choir Director John Butzow. Praise Chorale also prepares several annual musical programs, including performances in Christmas in Williamsburg (an annual dinner theatre set in the late 1700s) and an Easter Cantata.
- Sångarbröderna
Sångarbröderna (Swedish for "Singing Brothers") is a male chorus (in session September through May) under the direction of Choir Director John Butzow. Having recently celebrated the centennial year of this special ensemble, Sångarbröderna ministers in the Traditional Worship Service and prepares special musical programs throughout the year.
- Additional Ensembles
Other ensembles minister throughout the year to the worshipers in the Traditional Service, including Servant Song, a 7-voice, 4-part vocal ensemble.
11:00 am Contemporary Worship Service
The Contemporary Worship Service features a broad range of worship music from the most recent to the timeless songs of faith from centuries ago, using current musical idiom through the eclectic styles of a talented musical leadership team. We receive the same solid biblical teaching from Senior Pastor David Smith and Family Ministries Pastor David Ahrens, feeding and equipping worshipers to reach and touch our world.
- Praise Team
The Praise Team leads the congregation in musical praise and worship under the direction of Contemporary Worship Coordinator Becky Boyland. Featuring a talented ensemble of musicians with eclectic musical backgrounds (including rock, blues, country, and folk), the Praise Team is passionate about providing a way for worshipers to express their hearts to God in song.
